CHILDREN WITH DOWN SYNDROME

The Project
Fundacion Manos del Sur works with Fundación Complementa on a special program for extremely poor families with children with Down Syndrome.

The Children
Fifty children receive therapy and special education from a very young age and their parents attend instructive workshops on how to help their children develop their abilities.

Accomplishments
Manos del Sur provided funds to finance new physical therapy and psychological programs for children and their families, which is paramount to the child’s emotional development outside the center. Manos del Sur also provided a preventive health program for the children. Some of the funds were allocated to infrastructure and minor repairs. Finally, we provided funds for special festivities such as a birthday party for all children and the annual Christmas party.

Location
Santiago, Chile

Start date: March 1999
