New Project in Peru
December 28, 2009 Piura, Peru
Aldea Infantil San Miguel
de Piura,
is a center housing 76 children with ages ranging 3 months to 17 years old. These children were admitted to the Aldea by judicial
order since they were considered to be at risk. There they receive housing,
food and health services, in addition to schooling: nursery, elementary and
high school.
The center also offers various workshops for boys and girls
including: carpentry, sewing and design, hairstyling, animal rearing to augment
meat production, and vegetable and fruit gardening. With the help of Fundacion
Manos del Sur, the Aldea Infantil San
Miguel de Piura hopes to enhance these workshops with the goal of improving
the children s nutrition and at the same time, developing their technical
skills.
We did our first funds transfers to finance the workshops thanks to donations from private corporations and we are planning to incorporate the Aldea's children to our sponsoring program in a few weeks.
This project is locally administered by Ana Maria Bitar and Rosabel Dasso who will control the development of the programs and will be responsible to raise the necessary funds.
