Chile - Children with down syndrome
The Project
Fundación Manos del Sur, together with Fundación Complementa, runs a special program that provides aid to extremely poor families that have children with Down syndrome.
The Children
Fifty children start receiving physical therapy and education from a young age. In addition, their parents attend instructive workshops geared at helping their children further develop their abilities.
Accomplishments
Manos del Sur provided funds that financed new physical therapy and psychological programs for these children and their families. These programs have a positive impact on a child’s emotional development outside of the center.
Manos del Sur also provided a preventive health care program for the children. Funds also made it possible for infrastructure changes, minor repairs, and celebrating special occasions such as birthday parties for the children and the annual Christmas party.
